Our Size and ClienteleBarrett & Company PLLC has a highly diversified clientele representing many various industries. Our clients range in size from $100 million in annual sales revenues to much smaller operations. Closely-held corporations are the backbone of our practice. Serving these clients requires a different philosophy and approach than that traditionally taken by the large national, regional and local firms. Our primary function is to serve the basic interests and needs of the stockholders. This necessitates a recognition of the corporation as an extension of the stockholder’s personal goals and objectives. We believe an independent accountant’s responsibility should go beyond the mere fulfillment of the accounting and tax return preparation functions; it should include services which assist management and serve as a resource for informed judgment and as a sounding board for day-to-day management problems.
RAN ONEWe were accepted as a member of the worldwide RAN ONE, the largest network of independent accountants in the world. As a result of this affiliation, Barrett & Company PLLC focuses on much more than just the numbers of business. Our team members have had extensive training in topics like marketing strategies, how to improve your advertising, systems, “Key Performance Indicators”, management concepts, the 18 key leverage points of any business, the critical 4 ways to grow your business and much more. All of which helps us help our clients increase profits, improve personal lifestyles and ultimately increase the value of our client’s greatest asset–their business.
Our Service PhilosophyWe provide our clients the full scope of accounting, tax and management advisory services, in addition to fulfilling the basic audit and review function. The Barrett & Company PLLC team member assigned to serve a client is empowered to commit our firm in matters of policy. Our clients are not faced with unnecessary delays because decisions must be referred to a distant headquarters office. Additionally, he/she has the authority to bring to bear any of our resources to better serve you. This assures our clients of a single line of communication and responsibility. Our working relationship with our clients is designed to provide for prompt discussion of all important matters as they arise. We strive at all times to avoid last-minute surprises. Our philosophy emphasizes the importance of our certified public accountants staying actively involved with their clients. Providing service is a personal affair and the continual changing of key personnel is equivalent to continually changing CPA’s. Also, we believe such personnel must be actively involved or they cannot apply their talents in a cost-effective manner. The continuity we are able to provide through this approach, we believe, has yielded considerable benefits to our clients in more attentive and informed services at lower costs. We utilize a “team approach” in our engagements to provide the broadest possible service for our clients. We also emphasize heavy involvement by more experienced members of our firm. Throughout the year, we strive to maintain continuous communication with our clients, in order to serve as a sounding board for accounting, auditing, tax and everything else associated with their business. We are confident that we have the capability and expertise to fully satisfy all professional requirements.
Our Position on Accounting, Financial Reporting and Tax ProposalsOur firm closely monitors auditing, financial reporting and income tax proposals emanating from federal and state regulatory agencies. We study and analyze each of them. We advocate realistic approaches to improvements in financial reporting and accounting matters and oppose changes when, in our opinion, they are unnecessary or do not meet an acceptable cost/benefit test. We believe that financial reporting requirements should be sound and practical, and have urged business people to make themselves heard on new accounting proposals. We are constantly attempting to keep our clients aware of current changes or proposals in the areas of accounting, taxes, financial reporting and finance and general management. We perform this responsibility in one of several ways for all of our clients, including: * Publications: we send our clients publications covering such topics as current tax planning considerations, current business trends as well as various other general business topics. * Seminars: We sponsor various current topic seminars for our clients on such matters as tax, accounting and auditing updates. * Continuing Professional Education: Barrett & Company PLLC requires each of our professional team members to spend at least 40 hours per year in relevant professional education seminars. Quite often we schedule these seminars such that we can attend along with our clients so that the seminar contents can be specifically applied to clients. We recognize that the increasing flow of new accounting and tax standards and stricter auditing requirements place constantly increasing demands on a business and its accounting firm. Each new standard usually requires that we assist clients with their compliance efforts, and frequently necessitates additional auditing or review procedures. We, therefore, are constantly developing new techniques to make our audits and reviews more efficient, more economical, and less disruptive to our clients.
